I participated in a Google meditation program.

Googleの瞑想プログラムに参加してきました

Hello! This is Orcel Saito.

Did you know that Google is rolling out a meditation program worldwide?
This program, called SIY (Search In Yourself), is also available in Japan.

Many of you may have heard of the term "EQ," which stands for emotional intelligence.
It seems that in today's world, the key to success in business and life is how to improve EQ rather than IQ.
In business, leadership and performance
In life, well-being (= a state of being satisfied mentally, physically and socially)
There is said to be a large correlation.

It seems that if you have a high EQ, you will be healthier, more popular with others, and earn more money.

The key is not intelligence, but the size and strength of one's heart.
It is very interesting that Google, which can be said to be the world's number one company for intelligence, is promoting EQ and meditation, which are polar opposites, globally.

So I was very interested and applied straight away.
It's a long program consisting of three months of lectures and one month of practical experience, but the first lecture was held yesterday and I attended.

It was a two and a half hour lecture, but it also included practical exercises, so it was quite interesting.
However, closing my eyes and concentrating on my breathing was extremely painful for me, as I always had a report card in elementary school that said I was "restless and uncooperative."

Even though I am in this situation, I learned a meditation practice that was quick and effective, so I would like to share it with you.

It's called "Three Breaths."

---------------------------------------------------------------------

<Preparation>
- Close your eyes, sit upright, and relax. Do not use the backrest.
Breathe through your nose. Inhale and exhale through your nose.
- Take deep breaths. Take a deep breath and exhale.

<Practice>
1. First breath
Bring your attention to your breathing. Feel the breath moving in and out of your nose.

2. Second breath
I feel my shoulders relax

3. Third breath
Ask yourself, "What is important right now?" (What should I do now, etc.)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

This alone will help you feel refreshed and allow you to focus on the work you need to do now.

People spend 47% of their day absent-minded, wandering and worrying about the past or future.
There are apparently movements in European countries to adopt meditation as a national practice.

These three breathing techniques help me to get through this even though I'm always spinning around, so if you'd like, please give them a try.
